GETTING AROUND

Montpellier is a very modern city, with excellent transport links. In the city center most places can be reached on foot and everywhere can be reached by bike. Otherwise, we suggest that you use the excellent public transport.!

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

In Montpellier there is an excellent public transport system of buses and trams, which provides a cheap and practical way of getting around the city.

 

The bus and the tramway

The city of Montpellier has 4 tram lines, serving 8 districts in the metropolitan area.
• Line 1 from Mosson to Odysseum,
• Line 2 from Jacou to Siant-Jean de Védas,
• Line 3 from Juvignac to Lattes and Pérols,
• Line 4 From Albert 1er to Saint-Dénis.

There are also 36 bus routes that run throughout the city.

Prices

TaM Travel cards for the under 26’s :
• 15,60 € for 7 consecutive days from the first ticket validation,
• 28,00 € for 31 days,
• 196,00 € a year (in one payment or 29,12 € per month).

 

The TaM travel cards allow you to use the bus and tramway routes in all 31 suburban districts in Montpellier.

The monthly and yearly travel cards also allow you to use the tramway car parks free of charge.

You can recharge your card either online with the “Clé TaM” or directly at the card reader machines at tram stops.

 

Getting to the beach !

We think the best way is to take the line 3 tramway to Pérols – Etang de l’Or, then the bus line 132 to Petit travers at Carnon (using your TaM card of cause!). On week-ends from mid-May and throughout June and July the bus 32 gets you to Villeneuve-lès-Maguelon (leaving from Garcia Lorca). The TaM will also get you free bike rental with “Vélomagg”.

L’amigo

L’amigo is a night bus services that goes to and from the night clubs Thursday til Saturday from mid night til 5am. It departs from Gare Saint-Roch and Place de l’Europe. Stops include: Mas de Gau, Saint-Pierre, Route de Palavas and Garcia Lorca.

ENJOY CYCLING ?

Velomagg’ self-service bike hire is available 24/7 from 51 different bike stations around the city.

Access to this service is available with either your TaM card, your credit card or by telephone 09 69 39 00 99 (price of a local call).
Great news if you are under 26, you can subscribe to Vélomagg’ for only 35€ a year.

BY CAR

The “Oxygène” card

Only available to residents of Montpellier the Oxygène card gets you a discount on municipal parking charges.

If you would like to apply for one, go the TaM stationnement” agency, at rue Frédéric Fabrègues, with the following documents :
• Proof of residence
• Driving license

 

 

The agency is open Monday’s from 8.30am til 7pm, Tuesday’s, Thursday’s and Friday’s from 8.30am til 6pm and Saturday’s from 9.30am til 12.30 and 1pm til 4pm.
